Compounding

Our Cape Girardeau location offers compounding services.
Pharmacy compounding is the art and science of preparing personalized medications for patients. Compounded medications are "made from scratch" - individual ingredients are mixed together in the exact strength and dosage form required for the patient. This method allows the compounding pharmacist to work with the patient and the prescriber to customize a medication to meet the patient’s specific needs.
Our pharmacists are trained in medication compounding and can personalize medicine for patients who need specific strengths, dosage forms, flavors and/or ingredients excluded from medications due to allergies or other sensitivities. Medications can be compounded into the following dosage forms:
- Transdermal or Topical Formulations
- Troches, a type of lozenge that is placed between the cheek and gums until dissolved.
- Creams and Ointments
- Capsules
- Suppositories
Countless therapeutic possibilities exist when medications can be customized to meet the unique needs of a specific patient. Our compounding pharmacy solves patient medication problems by using the finest ingredients to formulate medications in the optimal strength and dosage form for each patient.
When a patient has a resistant or unique problem and commercially manufactured dosage forms do not precisely meet his or her specific needs, or if a drug is unpalatable or side effects of commercially available medications are unacceptable, contact our compounding professionals. We can change the dosage form or route of administration to improve acceptance, simplify administration, or decrease side effects – all of which can enhance compliance to medication protocols and improve therapeutic outcomes.
As a compounding pharmacy, we are able to produce unique dosage forms of medications based on your preferences and/or restrictions. Examples include dye-free, preservative-free, alcohol-free, and/or sugar-free forms of medications. To learn more about our ability to customize your meds, contact us today at 573-651-5250.
